Children’s Mobile Gaming Behaviours and Parental Concerns

OVERVIEW

This project has been done as part of my internship at Google, HQ with the Unicorn team in the process of building the Google Family Link application. The Family Link app helps parents to supervise their children’s device usage and lets them set digital ground rules for their family.

Gaming is one of the most common reasons children in pre-teenage and early teenage years use their devices. Therefore, the team wanted to have more insights about:

  1. Young children’s gaming behaviours on mobile devices
  2. Parents’ concerns about parental concerns about children’s mobile gaming.
  3. Children’s reaction to parental rules

This study led to the development of recommendations for the team to understand parental control strategies that might be specific to children’s gaming on their devices.
