Media2gether: Sharing Media During a Video Call

OVERVIEW

Telephone calls and videoconferencing are ubiquitous parts of everyday life. As the content of the call may extend beyond just words, people share applications and media using techniques such as screen sharing and email attachments. At the time of this project, little was known about the prevalence of this behavior and the benefits it could provide.

We conducted a survey and a lab study to understand the the shortcomings of video applications in support of interactive mutual media sharing and media usage during a video communication in domestic environments and led to understanding the desired interactions with media.

The insights and recommendations from this study were reported to a team of researchers and designers in Skype for further reconsideration.
